This Alternate Unit was created in the spirit of creating culturally competent curricula that is critical, participatory, and grounded in the interest of our students. Our goal, as educators, with this new unit is to address & discuss the issue of slavery while avoiding the many microaggressions put forth in the original unit. We also aim to introduce our students to local and Non-Dominate voices for a more holistic understanding of consequences of slavery, both globally and locally.
